As we all know, there are many things you can do for yourself around the house. Many building owners do much of their own maintenance. A little mechanical inclination can go a long way toward saving money. That being said, you must keep in mind your safety and the safety of your family, friends and neighbours. Installing or repairing water heaters encompasses gas and/or electrical related issues. There are strict codes in place to protect ourselves from ourselves and others. When saving money is your focus, safety can be ignored. Our technicians will not ignore safety issues. Any problems they see will be reported to you. Problems have been found with gaslines supplying existing appliances, electrical wiring and vent pipes carrying away the harmful gases caused by the combustion process. Safety must not be compromised!!!!!!
Do you have a water softener in your home? Do you want to extend the life expectancy of your water heater? Maybe you should change the sacrificial anode rod on a regular basis! Again, check the Photos page for the location of the sacrificial anode rod. Is the drain valve on your water heater leaking? Pick up a 3/4" hose end cap at any hardware store and install it on the end of the drain valve for a temporary fix until you have time to replace the drain valve itself. The cap is not recommended as a permanent solution. Do you have black soot stains by the access door to the pilot light? It's possible your water heater is not venting properly and you should have this problem rectified immediately! This could be an indication of vent gases escaping into your home. This may be a threat to the occupants!
